Life skills for leaving home

About the course

Course info: 3 hours £95pp
Living away from home for the first time is a steep learning curve! How many accidents did you have/mistakes did you make which in retrospect could have easily been avoided with a bit of basic knowledge? Not to mention the money which could have been saved.
We have put together a course teaching all these useful, practical (and some administrative) things to help people get off to a flying start when living away from home for the first time – be it going off to uni or leaving home to live with flatmates for the first time, our course will teach all the things we wish we’d know at that time of our lives.
This is a wide reaching course covering things such as maintaining household appliances to avoid expensive break downs/getting them working to optimum efficiency; learning what a deposit protection scheme is and how it works; dealing with the council; knowing where your stop cock is and what it’s for; knowing what to do when a fuse blows, how to fix the most common problems around the home; how to programme a thermostat…and lots more tips like these.

Topics this module covers will include:

  • basic use and maintenance of white goods
  • what to do in a plumbing emergency – identifying your stopcock and/or isolator valve
  • what to do when a fuse trips
  • how to programme a thermostat
  • dealing with leases, deposit protection schemes and the council
  • how to fix the most common problems around the home

This is a really broad course and we try to cover as many of the basics as possible and pack as much in as we can to help people get off to a great start in life.
